Is it Legal to Dispose of my Paper File?
Is it really legal & approved by the DRE to destroy my original paper record?
YES!

iScan uses the following specifications in order to meet State, Federal and DRE regulations for digital document retention:
1. Imaged Documents must be stored on NONERASABLE CD-R media. A copy of the imaged documents can be stored on computer hard disk for convenience of access only.
2. Imaged Documents must be stored in Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) and at a minimum optical resolution of 200 dpi for black and white, and 150dpi for color.
3. Imaged Documents must be indexed, and the index field must satisfy the following minimum requirements:
The index data must be unique for each imaged document.
Uniqueness can be established either by one index field if possible, or a combination of several fields.
At least one index field must be a “Date” formatted field.
4. An Imaging activity Log which contains the following information must be maintained:
Name of Operator
Imaging Date
Title of Imaged Document
5. Imaging of documents should be completed within 7 to 14 days of the date on which the original paper documents were completed.
6. Imaged documents shall be retained for at least three years in accordance to Section 10148 of the Code.
